To Sonny's Father

This one goes out to Sonny's father.  Complete with small pond.

It'll all be done in time for VizaGoGo!

To Sonny

My first attempt at incorporating my childhood furniture into my body of work.  Dresser drawer, plants, bones picked at Sonny's, and lots of dirt.  Grateful to Geoff Campbell for allowing me free use of his backyard.

Picked Fresh

Thanks to Sonny and his father for allowing me to pick through their dead pile out in Paradise Ranch.

Tiny Four

This guy nailed it.  Picked off another tiny shell off an oyster and a bit of seaweed out of the gulf.  Moved away from black sand this time around.

Tiny Three

Still playing with the new guys.  Tiny shell picked off an oyster, dried sea fan, and black sand.  All submerged.

Hm, not feeling very strongly about him.  I think he's missing something.

Gone driving

Just to clear my head.

Professional Packet

All seems to keep to a narrative.  This may not agree with some institutions. However, the more time I spend with my design, the more it feels right.

Artist Statement
Still needs a bit more polishing.  Photography needs to be better linked with the rest.

Biography
I'm becoming more comfortable describing myself in this way.  Not too sure if bits are more appropriate for my artist statement, though. As my professor has pointed out, I seem to be having some difficulty separating the two.

Resume
Upcoming shows and events need to documented here as well.  There seems to be a few shows and positions missing, too. This will require reformatting.

Tiny Two

Got through with this little guy a while back.  Suited up in an owl feather, moss from the yard, a winged friend, dried sea fan, and the standard black sand.

Welcome to the force.

Target Outline

Just to reiterate my objectives for the rest of the semester...

There are two series in progress: ponds and terrariums, all currently untitled.  By the end of Spring, I'd like to have one complete pond.  The ranks of terrariums should grow by at least two a week.  Every chance I get, I've been collecting supplies wherever I can...this includes dead things.  Free is good.

My final Spring installation will feature my works in progress.  Picture a cabinet of curiosities of sorts.  The proposal will be submitted to our local VIZA GOGO crew for review by April 18th.

Accompanying the installation will be a version of my professional packet that I've been developing in Professional Practice for Visualization.  It is currently being reviewed and edited.  Corrections and a reprint will be made in time for the show.  If the money can be found, I'd like to include small stylized kits for attendees.

I've recently been on the hunt for artist residency programs.  There are a few that are willing to host emerging artists.  My first application will go out to the Artist & Environmental Scientist Program offered by the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Oregon.  Application fees are required, and I hope to apply to as many as my wallet allows.

Parallel to this search is my pursuit to gain approval for the fulfillment of my degree plan with an artist in residence program in place of an industry oriented internship.  Encouraged by Lecturer Krista Steinke, I've taken it up with professors on my committee, and have just approached Frederic Parke, our Visualization Sciences Program Coordinator, with the idea.  He seems in favor and will bring it up in the next MFA committee meeting...Wonder if he'll make me attend...that might be scary fun.

Future posts will touch on each of these targets in more detail.

Tiny One

Here's the first small fry all done up in black sand, purple amethyst, and an owl feather taken from my one of my recent finds while out driving...I'd brought home the whole bird.  The remains were drying out in the backyard, and a cat must have taken the rest one night.   Now I'm only left with one wing.  Such a loss.
